On 21st -23rd of November 2025 the next eduRPG Barcamp on role-playing games in political education will take place ! We look forward to discussing, networking, exchanging and playing with you.
Registration is now open! You have questions? Send us a message to: barcamp@waldritter.de

What awaits you at the eduRPG Barcamp:
A barcamp is an open conference: Everyone – participants and organisers alike – has a say in the programme.
Do you want to try out new role-playing or storytelling games and would you like to think about ‘good’ game management? Are you interested in exploring political education topics through role-playing games or would you like to know more about tools and tricks for implementation? Then this barcamp is the right place for you!
The Barcamp will focus on pen & paper role-playing games, but related games such as larps, simulation games and narrative games can also be discussed and tried out.
This year’s theme is: Shaping the future – Tools and Tales for a better World. We are particularly looking for contributions on this topic, but other ideas and topics are also welcome
Thanks to funding from the German Federal Agency for Civic Education, the Barcamp is free of charge for you.
Barcamp in a nutshell
In order to include as many perspectives and experiences as possible, we are organising the event as a barcamp. This means that everyone involved, whether organiser or participant, decides which topics and questions should be part of the event
There will be content-related sessions for discussions, questions and presentations. This will allow experts to share insights into their experiences and projects and invite role-playing enthusiasts to discuss and exchange ideas. Of course, we will also have time to play and try things out! That’s why part of the programme is reserved for gaming sessions.
On barcamps all participants are invited to offer their own sessions of approx. 45 minutes, whether on a specific topic or as a question. It is also possible for you to offer a game session yourself.
Highlights and Partner
Lightning Talks:
Lightning Talks are short presentations that focus on just a few aspects. Here you can present yourself and your topics in a maximum of 5 minutes.
Roleplaying-Games in the evening:
We don’t just want to talk about games, we also want to try them out! In the evening programme, you can offer your own game rounds or take part in them.

Cooperation with the Japanese Journal of Analog Roleplaying-Games Studies (JARPS)
We are very pleased to continue our collaboration with the Japanese Journal of Analogue Role-Playing Games Studies (JARPS) this year. JARPS is organising an international symposium on Saturday 12-15h with some exciting contributions in English and Japanese. We invite all interested Barcamp participants to join us. The symposium will be accompanied by simultaneous translation and will take place in the Barcamp Zoom rooms. Afterwards, we will meet for a session to discuss the contributions. Participants of the symposium are also invited, so it will probably be held in English.

The Bonn Lab for Analogue Games and Innovative Play is also our partner this year and will support us with its expertise and network.

Your session, your topic!
Would you like to hav a certain topic for the programme? You want to share your project or discuss an exciting question? Bring it on! The Barcamp thrives on your contributions and we are happy to welcome anyone who would like to offer a session themselves. The session does not have to be perfectly prepared, it can also be a short project presentation, a discussion round or a joint brainstorming session. The important thing is that the participants have the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas, rather than just attending a presentation. The session should last approx. 45 minutes; a double session of 90 minutes can also be offered on request. Send questions and initial session proposals directly to: barcamp@waldritter.de
Join us, meet other role-playing enthusiasts and learn more about role-playing as a powerful tool for communicating topics, ideas and experiences.
Except for the JARPS programme on Saturday and some English sessions the main language of the barcamp will be German. If you don’t speak German talk to the other people in your sessions and all agree, we switch to English. However, we encourage you to make use of one of the many translations tools we can use nowadays: Zoom has subtitles includes, e.g. Google translator and deeple offer acceptable translations for free.
Networking
You can also network and exchange ideas outside of the sessions. It’s best to sign up on our pinboard right away. Our eduRPG Discord server is of course still open, where you can exchange ideas at any time, e.g. every Tuesday in the role-playing workshop.
